Centre was not consulted: PM Modi on Masarat Alam,s release

In his statement in the Lok Sabha, Modi said: "I also lending my voice to the outrage that has been displayed in the country and in the House today...This aakrosh (anger) is not about any party or this bench or that bench. It is about the nation."

He said: "I am assuring the nation that there is no compromise on the unity of the country."

"We are not going to tolerate any step which undermines the unity of the country," he said.

Speaking further on the issue, he said: "We asked for a clarification from the state government on the issue of Masrat Alam's release and when it comes we will inform you on the matter."

Immediately after Modi made his statement, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the BJP's decision to give its support to the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Why is the BJP not withdrawing its support from the Jammu and Kashmir government," he said.

Amid ruckus, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday made a statement over the issue of separatist leader Masarat Alam's release from a prison in Jammu and Kashmir last week and said the Centre will never compromise on security-related issues.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he said: "He had 27 criminal cases on him. As far as the information we have, the court granted him bail for all those cases."

"After getting full clarification from the state government, we will issue a strong advisory, if it is needed," Singh said.

The Opposition parties on Monday created ruckus in the Parliament over the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam from a prison in Jammu and Kashmir last week.
