Srinagar, Aug 22 (IBNS): A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was allegedly shot dead by terrorists in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning, media reports said.

Shabir Ahmad Bhat, the dead saffron party worker, was gunned down at Rakh-e-litter area at around 2.30 am.

Police told media that Bhat was kidnapped on Tuesday evening.

A massive man-hunt was launched to track the deceased.

Bhat was the district president of BJP's youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

Condemning the killing, BJP national president Amit Shah tweeted, "Anguished to learn about the killing of BJP karyakarta, Shabir Ahmad Bhat by terrorists in Pulwama (J&K). This act of cowardice is highly condemnable. Extremists cannot stop the youth of Kashmir from choosing a better future for themselves. This cycle of violence won't last long."

Condoling Bhat's death, Shah said in a follow up tweet, "The sacrifice of our @BJP4JnK karyakartas will not go in vain. Entire BJP stands firmly with Shabir Ahmad Bhat's family in this hour of grief. My deepest condolences. May god give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss."
