BJP leaders in huddle with Modi in Gandhinagar
New Delhi, May 14 (IBNS) With exit polls predicting a Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the centre, senior BJP leaders like party president Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Arun Jaitley are holding meeting with the Gujarat chief minister in Gandhinagar to discuss their post-result strategy.
The senior leaders reached the residence of Modi and started discussions.
Senior party leader Sushma Swaraj's absence in Gandhinagar is being seen as a new power equation in BJP since Swaraj is known to be close to party patriarch LK Advani.
However, some media reports said Swaraj could get the defence ministry if an NDA government is formed.
Political pundits said the new BJP would be powered by the leaders who were present in the residence of Modi on Wednesday.
BJP, however, brushed aside all speculations.
If NDA wins a clear majority, a new government led by Narendra Modi could be a reality by May 20, according to reports.
Media reports said Modi could take office sooner if NDA gains clear majority.
The AIADMK of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has indicated good ties with Modi if he formed the government at centre as a senior leader of the southern party said Modi and Jaya are friends and have mutual respect.
Jayalalithaa herself however said she would not comment on anything till the results were declared.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik might also lend support to BJP and Modi. While Patnaik himself said no decision has been taken yet on the matter, his party leaders said there could be conditional support.
A CNN IBN report said party patriarch LK Advani could be the chairperson of the NDA while Sushma Swaraj could bag the defence ministry and Arun Jaitley could be the Finance Minister.
A staggered nine-phase Lok Sabha poll ended on May 12 in India with projections in all exit polls that BJP-led NDA will come to power.
Several of the exit polls said NDA will bag at least 272 seats while some put the figure at around 282 in the 543 member Parliament.
