Bengal Polls: 23.46 percent voters turnout recorded till 9 a.m.

Kolkata, May 5 (IBNS) The sixth and final phase of the ongoing West Bengal Assembly Elections recorded 23.46 percent voter turnout till 9 a.m., reports said.

In this phase, polling will take place at nine constituencies in Cooch Behar district and 16 in East Midnapore.

East Midnapore recorded a polling percentage of 24.45 percentage, while Cooch Behar had a percentage of 21.59.

More than 58 lakh people are eligible for voting  at 6,774 polling stations across 25 constituencies in East Midnapore and Cooch Behar districts.

Around 9,776 people, who are part of the enclave, have been registered as voters. They are expected to exercise their franchise.

Security has been tightened across the two districts for polling.

361 companies of central forces assisted by a contingent of 12,000 state police personnel have been deployed in the districts.

The fight is between the TMC and Cong-Left alliance.

Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.

Counting of votes will take place on May 19.
