Assam govt to strictly monitor use of social media

Guwahati, May 18 (IBNS): Considering the spurt of misuse of social media in recent days in the state, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the Chief Secretary and DGP, Assam to take stern action against all those involved in such misdeeds.

Discussing issues relating to misuse of social media with senior officials of Home Department on Wednesday evening, Sonowal advocated for use of appropriate law against all such cases.

He also asked the police department to strictly monitor the use of social media including Facebook, Tweeter, Instagram etc. to check all such incidents.

The Assam CM stated that many incidents have been reported recently where social media was used to malign the image of certain personalities as well as to vent personal anguish through publication of fabricated information.

Expressing concern over such incidents, Sonowal said that it was a bad trend which need to be checked.

The Assam CM asked the police department to take prompt action against all such misuse.

Media Adviser to Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam VK Pipersenia, DGP Mukesh Sahay, Principal Secretary (Home) LS Changsan were also present among others in the discussion.
