Guwahati, June 24 (IBNS): After scripting victory of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) polls with sweeping majority by winning 24 seats out of 26, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would likely to form the next council on the first week of July.

A top source of the saffron party said that, the next council would likely to be formed by first week of July.

“Before forming the council, the party will choose the next Chief Excutive Member (CEM). Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, party’s Assam unit president Ranjit Dass and other top leaders will decide who will take charge the top command of the council,” the source said.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Assam unit president Ranjit Dass said that, the next CEM of KAAC is yet to be finalished.

“We have already discussed with the newly elected council members of BJP to form the next council and other issues like development of the hills district,” Dass said.

The state government extended the term of the present council by a period of six months with effect from January 13, 2017 by issuing a notification no HAD.265/2011/79 on January 9, 2017.

The council was constituted in 1952 to preserve the political and traditional identity of the Karbi community.
