Assam : 3 killed, 22 injured in clash, curfew imposed in Golaghat

Guwahati, Aug 20 (IBNS) : At least three people were killed and 22 others were injured in a clash between protesters and police in Assam's trouble-torn Golaghat district on Wednesday.
According to reports, the clash took place at Golaghat city, where thousands of people came out on the highway and protested against the Assam government and the Assam police for failing to give security to the people in tense Assam-Nagaland border. Protesters set on fire a tyre and a police vehicle.
 
The situation turned more violent, when protesters set on fire a police vehicle and pelted stones on security personnel.
 
''We had first resorted to lathicharge to control the situation but the protesters forced us to firing,'' Golaghat SP Siladitya Chetia said.
 
In police firing and lathicharge, at least three protesters were killed 22 others were injured.
 
The injured people were rushed to Golaghat civil hospital and Jorhat medical college hospital.
 
On Tuesday, a protester was killed and 20 others injured in police firing at Rongajan area in Golaghat district.
 
The people protested against the state government and police alleged failure to provide security to villagers in border.
 
Meanwhile, Golaghat district administration had imposed curfew in the district. 
 
On other hand, Union Doner minister VK Singh on Wednesday arrived at Guwahati and he will took stock the situation in Assam-Nagaland border.
