New Delhi/Ahmedabad, Aug 1 (IBNS): Just a year before the state will elect a new Assembly, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Monday resigned from her post.

She was serving the state since Prime Minister Narendra Modi resigned as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2014.

Modi became the PM of the country following his BJP's landslide  victory in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014. The Congress government at the Centre was completely uprooted from power after ruled the nation for 10 years.

Patel will turn 75 in November this year.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister said: "I have asked to be relieved of the duty two months before that."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal targeted Patel and said she resigned due to the growing popularity of his Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat.

" Anandiben Patel resigned due to the growing popularity of AAP in the Gujarat. BJP is scared,"Kejriwal tweeted.
