43 Kerala nurses from strife-torn Libya arrive in Kochi
Kochi, Aug 5 (IBNS): As many as 43 Keralite nurses, stranded in strife-torn Libya, arrived in Kochi on Tuesday.
According to reports, at least 58 nurses had reached Tunisia from Tripoli two days ago of which 43 reached their home state on Tuesday. The remaining nurses are scheduled to arrive in Kerala on Wednesday while three of them are likely to reach by another flight.
The nurses used to work in various hospitals in trouble-torn Libya.
They had reached Tunisia and then Dubai to take the scheduled flight to Kochi to reunite with their families, CEO of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs (NoRKA) department P Sudeep said.
Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy communicated to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on August 1 seeking the Centre’s intervention in bringing the Kerala nurses back home, media reports said.
The Kerala government also promised to give a cash assistance of Rs. 2,000 each to the nurses. Earlier, total 46 nurses, held captive by ISIS militants in Iraq, were brought back home by a special Air India Flight last month.
