Patna, July 28 (IBNS) : The number of minor girls raped at a Government shelter house in Bihar has gone up to 34 with reports of five more inmates being violated in one of the most horrific incidents in the country in recent times, media reports said.

News 18 quoted Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harpreet Kaur as saying: "It was not 29, but 34 girls who were raped at the Muzaffarpur shelter home."

Medical examinations of 42 girls last week had stated that 29 of them were raped.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had on Thursday recommended a CBI probe as the Opposition launched a scathing attack on the Government following the incident.

In a stinging tweet posted on Saturday, Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav  said, "Bihar has rakshas raj (demonic rule). Here, Ravan kidnaps Mother Sita. This is balatkar raj(rape culture), coward Duryodhan is disrobing Draupadi. In Bihar, the Ravan-Duryodhan pair has made it difficult for sisters and mothers to step out."

Ten out of 11 accused have been arrested. The police have filed a charge sheet against them.

The sexual assault at the state-run home surfaced after Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences submitted a report, based on conversations with several girls at the home.

The organisation running the shelter home has been blacklisted and all the girls have been shifted to homes in neighbouring districts.
