Kabul, Apr 1 (IBNS): At least 27 terrorists were killed during an operation launched by the security forces in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, media reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, security forces launched the operation and the terrorists were killed during the last three days.

The operation is currently going on, an official told Tolo News.

Badakhshan governor Ahmad Faisal Bigzad said security forces have made good progress during the operation.

“Our security forces are advancing step by step and clearing the villages in order to prevent civilian casualties and are creating check posts,”  Bigzad told the Afghan media Tolo News.

The operation is reportedly taking place under the name of  Operation Nusrat.

Officials told Tolo News that five villages have been cleared so far.

“In the past two days seven key members of the enemies including a Tajikistani citizen were killed and 17 others were wounded,”  Mohammad Naeem Majidi, an army commander in Badakhshan, told Tolo News.

The operation was launched in Wardoj and Yamgan districts to retake control from Taliban militants.

Taliban has taken the areas under its control  for a year.
