2 killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati, Dec 20 (IBNS) : Two people, including a militant, were killed in an encounter between security forces and National Democratic front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) militants in Assam's Sonitpur district along Arunachal Pradesh border on Saturday, police said.

The encounter took place at Kalamati area near Mishamari in northern Assam district where a hardcore militant of the outfit group and a student killed.

“Based on intelligence input, police had launched operation at the remote area, where four militants were hiding. When security personnel reached the area, the militant group firing and bullets were exchanged, in which two people including a militant killed,” Assam police IGP SN Singh said.

A hardcore militant of the rebel group identified as B Redbon was killed on spot and a student Nayan Jyoti Medhi, who allegedly link with the militant group, was injured.

The injured student was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The police have recovered one 7.65mm pistol, several rounds ammunition in possession from the slain militant.

On other hand, the security forces recovered 1010 rounds of live ammunition of AK series rifle and arrested a person from Maibong area in Dima Hasao district on Saturday.
