150 shanties gutted in devastating fire in Jammu

| | Nov 26, 2016, at 05:23 pm
Srinagar, Nov 26 (IBNS) : At least three people were killed and six others injured in a devastating fire that destroyed over 150 'Jhuggis' (shanties) in Jammu on Saturday, officials said.

Sources in hospital said three dead bodies were brought during the intervening night  of Saturday while six persons, suffering  burn injuries were being treated.

“The jhuggis were erected by labourers on a private land in Narwal, Preliminary investigations suggest that the  fire was caused by short circuit in electric wires. The blaze spread to about 50 jhuggis in no time.” Said Dy.SP of Narwal Area Chandan Kohli

The fire spread fast as the jhuggis were made of polythene and wood planks.

All the belongings of the labourers were reduced to ashes in the fire.
