Rotary Club of Calcutta Magnum goes virtual in appointing new president

July is an important month for Rotarians across the world. This is the month for installation of new president and other committee members.

In the wake of the global pandemic, when physical distancing is the need of the time, virtual meets are only solutions.

Rotary Club of Calcutta Magnum from District 3291 thus chose the virtual way for their presidential installation on July 14.

Rtn. Sandipan Ghosh was selected as the Rotary Club President for 2020-21, installed by the past president Rtn. Purnasish Roy.

This virtual installation is first of its kind in Kolkata and has been appreciated by club members and well wishers alike.

The club, with due permission of the District Governor, took a very sensible and wise decision to have a virtual installation meeting and did not take the risk to put anyone’s life in danger, said a Rotary member.

The members happily took part in the virtual space thus saving money which they wish to spend in a meaningful project in near future, he said.

A total of 22 Rotarians were present in the meeting including DG. Rtn. Sudip Mukherjee, DGN Rtn. Ajoy Law, DGE Rtn. Prabir Chatterjee. One new member was also inducted during the event.

Rotarian Apratim Ghoshal, Chairman, Public Relations, said: “In this pandemic, the only wise thing is to do virtual Rotary meetings and planning. You need to go out a little when you need to implement tour projects. We are coming up with our club SOP which we will follow during next months."

"This will help us to continue our projects and contribution to the society by doing meaningful projects. The need of the hour is to stay at home and maintain social distancing. If we ourselves fail to stay healthy, we won’t be able to do any good to others!  I am pretty sure we will be comfortable with this format very soon and thus will be able to reduce administration cost and invest more on good projects,” he said.
