World's biggest Covid Care Hospital with 10,000 beds inaugurated in Delhi

New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Sunday inaugurated the 10,000 bedded Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre and Hospital (SPCCCH), the biggest facility to treat the coronavirus patients, set up at Radha Soami Satsang Beas in the Chatarpur area of the national capital.

This Covid care facility is different from the 1,000-bed hospital built by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with assistance from Tata Sons in Delhi Cantonment to treat the coronavirus patients.

The South Delhi District Administration set up the hospital with the support of the ministry of home affairs on an emergency basis to isolate the mild and asymptomatic patients.

Reports said at least 10 per cent of the beds have oxygen facility for patients who develop severe breathlessness and require tertiary hospital care.

The SPCCCH is linked to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital while the referral tertiary hospitals are Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will manage the first 2,000 beds at the moment with their 170 doctors/specialists and more than 700 nurses and paramedics, said a Hindustan Times report.

In order to manage the treatment of thousands of patients, the hospital is using the e-Hospital software of NIC to effectively run the medical operations, right from the admission to treatment, investigation, progress, referral and discharge through the software, said the report.

Most of the basic infrastructure like bed linen, mattresses, pillows have been donated by civil society organisations.

The hospital has been created to provide stress-free and mindful isolation to the Covid-19 patients, said the report. In order to achieve this, the hospital has a recreational centre with a library, board games, skipping ropes, etc, it added.

Patients will be provided with five healthy meals along with immunity-boosting chyawanprash, juices, hot kadha etc, the HT report stated.
