WHO does not see surge in COVID-19 spreading in Russia

| @indiablooms | Sep 16, 2020, at 10:26 pm

Moscow/Sputnik: The World Health Organization (WHO) does not register a surge in COVID-19 daily growth in Russia, while the situation is different in Europe, WHO Representative to Russia Melita Vujnovic said on Wednesday.

"We currently see growth in many countries across the European region, but we do not see this in Russia," Vujnovic said at an online press conference.

The WHO has drawn this conclusion from the data that the national sanitary regulations institute submits to the organization daily, Vujnovic added.

The WHO official praised Russia's COVID-19 response and testing.

"What can we say about [Russia's] COVID-19 response, it was absolutely unprecedented. A huge response of the entire system, the entire government, at all the levels, which helped clearly see the number of infected people. Russia is among the world's leading countries in terms of the conducted tests," Vujnovic said.

Russia has registered 1,079,519 COVID-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic. The country has conducted over 41.4 million tests to detect the infection.
