West Bengal reports biggest single-day spike in fresh Covid-19 cases, death toll touches 1112

Kolkata/IBNS: With the highest one-day spike of 2278 infections and 36 deaths, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has jumped to 42487, including 16492 active cases, 1112 fatalities and 24883 recoveries, state health department said on Sunday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family  Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the last 24 hours, a record number of 1344 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate slightly up to 58.56 per cent from 58.54 per cent.

Officials said that state capital Kolkata and its adjoining district, North 24 Parganas, registered the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours-- 662 and 544 respectively, while Kolkata alone reported 15 more deaths in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal has tested 7,03,284 samples till date with 13471 tests conducted in 54 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 3732 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 31320 people are under home surveillance in the state.
