Kolkata/IBNS: In more worries for the eastern state, West Bengal on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases as 2,198 people were infected with the contagion in the last 24 hours.

This is also the first time the number of daily cases crossed 2,000 in the state.

The overall Covid tally touched 40,209.

27 deaths in the last one day took the Covid toll to 1,076.

The state has 15,594 active Covid-19 patients while the recovery rate remained 58.54%.

6,89,813 samples including 13,465 samples in the last 24 hours have so far been tested in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier this week said people should not panic over the spike in cases as the state has decided to ramp up testing.
