West Bengal reports 18,213 COVID-19 cases , 18 deaths in 24 hours
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal, which is one of the worst COVID-19 affected states, added 18,213 COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 18 in the last 24 hours, the state health bulletin said on Friday.
In the same span of time, 7,912 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.
The discharge rate in the state is now 95.84%.
In the last 24 hours, 69,158 samples were tested across the state.
Among all the districts, Kolkata, which is also the capital city of the state, has alone reported 7,484 followed by North 24 Parganas (3,118) and Howrah (1,360).
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court on Friday allowed the West Bengal government to go ahead with the Gangasagar Mela, which attracts lakhs of people, amid the massive surge in COVID-19 in the state, media reports said.
The high court, which had reserved its decision, gave the nod with certain conditions.
It has constituted a three-member committee, comprising Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state, West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman or his representative and a representative of the State, to regulate the crowd in the mela and ensure the court's directives are followed.
