Seven die, more than 1,000 affected in jaundice outbreak in Shimla

Shimla, Jan 27 (IBNS) Seven people have so far died and more than 1,000 have been affected of jaundice following a severe outbreak of jaundice in Shimla over the past month, reports said.

The outbreak of the water borne disease has reportedly  affected all sections of society from doctors and bureaucrats to students and tourists.

Hospitals are reporting 50 to 100 new cases of jaundice daily, 

 The Shimla police has found that effluents are being discharged into the Ashwani Khad as the sewage treatment plant at Malyana has been non-functional for months. The rivulet is a source of drinking water for the state capital.
