ORBIS signs MoU with Taiwan Govt to develop paediatric eye care system
Kolkata, Dec 21 (IBNS): An agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), R. O. C. (Taiwan) and Orbis International on Monday in Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Center to develop a long-term sustainable pediatric eye care system and to deliver quality eye care services to the children of West Bengal.
MOFA Taiwan was represented by Chung-Kwang Tien, Representative of Taiwan to India from the Taipei Economic & Cultural Center in India and Orbis International was represented by Rahul Ali, Country Director-India.
Jeannie Tien Chen Ambassadress of Taiwan to India from the Taipei Economic & Cultural Center in India and Ratish Chandra Paul, Secretary Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Center were also present on the occasion.
The aim of the Agreement between Orbis and MOFA is to create a collaborative relationship between the institutions to develop a long-term sustainable pediatric eye care system in West Bengal.
“Orbis has established the world’s largest Children’s Eye center in India. This one in Susrut is the 32nd center,” said Rahul Ali, the ORBIS India Country Director.
He also said that, “We are glad that MOFA (Taiwan) is supporting us in this effort.”
A grant of US$ 80,000 has been awarded by the MOFA, R.O.C. (Taiwan) to Orbis International to support their work with Susrut Eye Foundation and Research Center towards eliminating avoidable blindness among children in the region. It will strengthen Taiwan’s bilateral relations with India as well as its association with international humanitarian organizations.
