Odisha: Police personnel, court staff put on quarantine as an accused tests Covid positive

Puri/UNI: The Kumbharpara police station staff were put under home quarantine after an accused arrested by police on last Thursday and detained inside the police station tested positive.

Puri Superintendent of police Umashankar Dash said some staffs of Kumbarpara police station were put under quarantine and their swab sample would be taken for testing as the accused tested corona positive.

The SP said further action would be taken as on the advice of health department while contact tracing of the accused patient was on.

It is learnt that the accused had returned from Delhi and his swab was collected for testing .

Deputy Police Superintendent Khirasagar Naik said new police personnel would take temporary charge of the Police station..

He said this single case may prove to be a super spreader. While he was moving freely in public places since his return from Delhi and after arrest he was produced in the court of SDJM along with two other accused.

All of them were forwarded to jail. The court room and court sub-inspector offices would be sanitised and the staff attended his case may have to go on quarantine.

The police personnel who escorted the accused from court sub inspector office to the SDJM court would be identified and tested.

This apart the other two accused who went to jail along with the accused covid positive patient were to be tested besides the attending jail staff.

The district jail is located twenty five kms away on the Puri Konark matine drive road.

Jailor Dillip Jena said the accused came in the court van along with two others.

The accused has been kept in isolation while the two were kept in separate room of the jail.. The accused patient would be sent to Covid hospital today.
