Malaysia reports 7 new cases of COVID-19, bringing total to 36
Kuala Lumpur/Xinhua/UNI: Malaysia on Tuesday recorded seven new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 36, said the Health Ministry.
All seven cases are Malaysian nationals, aged between 40 and 58 and were close contact of the 26th case, the ministry said in a statement.
"These cases are close contacts with patient 26. Close contact tracking activities for the 26th case and the new cases are still being carried out and people will be notified of the latest developments on it," it said.
The 26th patient is a Malaysian man aged 52 who had a history of travel to Shanghai, China in mid-January. He started having fever and sore throat on Feb. 27 and sought outpatient treatment in a private hospital on the same day. He was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 on Feb. 29.
Among the seven new cases, two had recent travel history to Australia, one had returned from Egypt, one had travelled to the northern Borneo state of Sarawak while the remaining cases had no recent travel history, the ministry said, adding all of them are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The new cases brought the total number of cases in the country to 36, of whom 22 had been cured and discharged from hospital.
