India witnesses biggest jump in COVID-19 cases, death toll stands at 30601

New Delhi: India witnessed the highest daily spike in COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as the figure stands at  49,310, as per Ministry of Health released data on Friday.

The country also registered 740 deaths as the death toll due to the highly infectious disease now stands at 30601.

There are 440135 active cases in the country at present.

So far, 817208 people have been discharged.

Situation in US: 

The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States has surpassed the 4 million mark to reach 4,005,414,  according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the national death toll from the disease rose to 143,820, the CSSE data showed on Thursday.

California has recently surpassed New York to be the hardest-hit state with 421,857 cases.

Other states with over 100,000 cases include New York, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Georgia, Arizona,  assachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Louisiana, according to the CSSE.

The WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11.
