Kolkata, Mar 14 (IBNS) Enhancing the quality of life of patient with implanted cardiac device is now available in Kolkata with the advancement of industry’s new age technology and therapy, Remote Monitoring or Home Monitoring.

Shuvanan Ray , Consultant & Chief of Cardiac Intervention, Fortis Hospital, Kolkata, used this device on a patient in Kolkata.

The Remote Monitoring Device constantly monitors the rhythm of the heart of a patient with cardiac device from within the comfort of home and transmits reports to the doctor daily. Any change in the treatment or an emergency situation can be handled by the doctor with suggested medication.

2015 HRS Expert Consensus Statement on Remote Care recommendations were that remote monitoring represents the new standard of care for patients.

Remote monitoring enables early diagnosis of technical or clinical issues facilitating early clinical intervention if needed; which in turn resulted in significant reduction in relative risk of death. Further this device helps in reducing hospitalizations and lower overall healthcare costs than patients who do not use or adhere with the technology.

Remote Monitoring of patients allows doctors to detect issues early and build a care plan. It benefits cardiac device patients immensely. Patients with cardiac devices who use remote monitoring have significantly fewer hospitalizations & lower healthcare costs than patients who do not use or adhere with the technology.

Shuvanan Ray used ‘Remote Monitoring’ device on a patient from Kolkata.

After implantation of the Cardiac Device, the patient was put on ‘Remote Monitoring’ treatment which connected the it  to this device and was kept at his/her bed-side.

The wireless ‘Merlin@home  Remote Monitoring’devicedaily tracked the heart rate variability of the patient and transmitted the report to the doctor via device.

The use of this device reduces heart-related complications and the hospital visits to the doctor who had an implantation.

The report helped the doctor to keep a daily tab on the patient’s health condition and in case of emergency suggest a medication until the patient can be rushed to the hospital if required.

Ray said, “We are really happy with the invention of such new age therapy device Merlin@home ™ Remote Monitoring which helps us to keep a check on the patient’s health throughout day and night without him actually visiting us. Using remote monitoring improves the consistency of follow-up care for patients. This made treatment easier for us too improving physician ease-of-use and we strongly recommend use of it”.
