Coronavirus cases in Afghanistan cross 15,000 mark

Kabul/UNI: Afghanistan registered 680 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total count to 15,205, said the Ministry of Public Health on Sunday.

Tolo news agency quoted the ministry saying that eight people succumbed to the disease and 25 patients recovered during the past 24 hours.

Afghanistan has registered 257 Corona virus related deaths till date while 1,328 patients have recovered till date.

The ministry claims to have tested 38,460 samples in an effort to trace those who are Corona positive.

Out of the new cases, the capital city of Kabul is worst affected as it reported 371 cases while Herat witnessed 111 cases and Balkh reported 75 cases. Samangan and Nangarhar reported 33 and 22 cases respectively.

Deputy health minister Wahid Majroh appealed to Afghan citizens to use only those medicines that have been authorized by the ministry.

Majroh made an emotional appeal to the citizens to co operate with government agencies in the battle against the pandemic, stating that co-operation is the "last hope for controlling the spread of COVID-19."
