CMRI chosen for mock disaster management exercise by West Bengal government

Kolkata, Nov 19 (IBNS) The Department of Disaster Management, Government of West Bengal and National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India conducted a mock exercise at The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) among other places on Thursday.

The largescale exercise with participation from Kolkata Police, Military, fire department, Hospital staff and other stakeholders was undertaken to create awareness about emergency response preparedness and to identify areas of improvement.

The final mock drill that took place at CMRI brought together the various aspects of emergency response to ensure that they work together seamlessly.

Jashodhara Ghosh, Vice President, The Calcutta Medical Research Institute, said, “We at The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) are honoured to be a part of the mock exercise to inculcate preparedness during earthquake disasters in the Kolkata district organised by the Department of Disaster Management, Government of West Bengal and National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is the need of the hour to revisit and evaluate plans and preparedness for disaster management and emergency response in the region. CMRI has continuously endeavoured to raise the standards of emergency care in the community and this collaboration is another step towards creating a network of well-oiled systems that will come into play during disaster management circumstances. We will continue to provide our support and assistance to these departments of Government to raise awareness and inculcate a culture of preparedness in the community.”
