Volvo Auto India launches its quickest car ever – Volvo S60 Polestar

Kolkata, Apr 14 (IBNS): Swedish automobile company Volvo Cars launched the fastest car they have ever made – the new Volvo S60 Polestar.

Polestar, the performance brand owned by Volvo Cars, is the quickest car from Volvo’s stable.

The car makes 0 - 100km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 250kmh, powered by a specially-enhanced version of Volvo’s award-winning four cylinder Drive-E powertrain.

Polestar has taken an original S60 and added a bigger turbo, a supercharger, new conrods, new camshafts, a larger air intake and a higher capacity fuel pump to augment the engine; and matched it with a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system and the new Polestar-optimised eight-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox.

On top of this new performance-optimised equipment, Polestar has reduced the car’s weight by 24kgs lighter over the front axle and 20kgs lighter in total compared to the previous model years.

The new Volvo S60 Polestar comes at an unbelievable INR 52.5 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi) a price that will attract many petrolheads.

“This car is remarkably quick,” said- Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India. “But it is more than that. It combines Polestar’s 20 years racing pedigree with Volvo’s inherent pragmatism and engineering heritage. It is a racing car that you can use every day of the year, be it track or city roads.”

The first road legal Polestar cars were launched in 2014 to limited markets. Today, Polestar is delighted to announce an expansion to 47 markets (up from 13) and doubling volumes from 750 to 1500 cars. India being a growth market promises to be an important step in achieving the targets.

”While used vastly in different areas, this car shares more than just technology as compared to the track car. The core philosophy is the same, developed by people with the same passion. It is about creating performance that can be used in all situations, no matter if it’s about winning a championship or being able to enjoy a safe, functional and fun-to-drive car all year.”-  Tom von Bonsdorff added.
