Kolkata, Aug 28 (IBNS): The Government of Karnataka, and Tata Trusts, which had joined hands to introduce a Digital Nerve Centre (DiNC) for the primary healthcare system in the state, on Monday commenced a pilot centre in Kolar. This will make Kolar the first model district for primary healthcare transformation in the state.

DiNC will harness technology, systems and processes to transform existing systems by enabling patients access to information, and improving overall outcomes of health care.

It will cater to healthcare centres across five taluks in the district by covering Primary Healthcare (sub-centre and Primary Healthcare centre) and Secondary Healthcare (Community Healthcare Centre, Sub-district Hospital / Area Hospital/ Taluka Hospital / Civil Hospital and District Hospital).

The DiNC initiative aims to address the challenges faced by healthcare delivery systems by enhancing awareness about the availability of services and healthcare programmes, adequate distribution of resources across talukas and the appropriate utilisation of healthcare information systems.

R. Venkataramanan, Managing Trustee, Tata Trusts, said, “We are excited to partner with the Government of Karnataka and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in this ambitious project that will touch millions of lives. We are committed to creating a sustainable impact and are confident that working with and supporting Government systems paves the way to achieve the larger goal of transforming public healthcare. We are thankful to the Government of Karnataka for its support and commitment. We look forward to implementing the project successfully with the Government of Karnataka and TCS.”

Girish Krishnamurthy, Vice-president, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said "Our hearty congratulations to the Karnataka health and family welfare ministry with the first of its kind digital transformation initiative of primary healthcare system in the state making Kolar the first model district today. We are confident this progressive health care model will benefit the 1.6 million population of Kolar with easy healthcare access in their hands. We are proud to be a part of this noble initiative.”

Tata Trusts is committed to revolutionising healthcare systems by facilitating initiatives that leverage low-cost and affordable technologies, by enabling equitable access to treatment and engage in capacity-building for medical personnel to improve overall healthcare indicators. The Trusts has been engaged in the field of public health, developing and supporting initiatives that address key issues by identifying current limitations health systems face.

While Tata Trusts and TCS will set up the infrastructure, technology platform and initiate activities to educate the population about the transformational capabilities of the DiNC, the state’s Department of Health & Family Welfare will collaborate to take forward implementation of all finance linked health schemes through the DiNC.
