Mumbai/IBNS: Air India on Friday appointed Vikram Dev Dutt as its chairman and managing director (CMD).

The airline will be handed over to Tata group this year after it won the bid to buy the loss-making national carrier for Rs 18,000 crore in October.

In a press release, Air India said Dutt will replace Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal, who held the top position in Air India till now.

Dutt is a 1993-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.

Air India said Dutt has been appointed the airline's CMD in the rank and pay of additional secretary.
