Victoria Memorial illuminated with green lights on World Environment Day

Kolkata, June 5 (IBNS): As part of Tata Steel's environment awareness initiative the Victoria Memorial, on Thursday, bathed in green lights to observe the World Environment Day (June 5).

This is the 6th year in succession that Tata Steel has been associated with this initiative to create awareness on environmental issues.

This initiative is a part of a nationwide campaign termed as Greenfection which is spearheaded by Tata Steel along with World Wildlife Federation (WWF). Tata Steel has been instrumental in bringing environmental sustainability and boosting the biodiversity where it operates.

The company has over the years undertaken the initiative to conserve and restore the flora and fauna and also formed an environment department within the steel plants to constantly monitor the air and water pollution and work towards the corrective measures.

In the past few years, the Greenfection initiative by Tata Steel has reached out in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Jamshedpur through vigorous campaigns. There has been social media campaigns, sapling plantation programme in many schools and colleges across the country.

Every year the majestic 184 feet high structure of Victoria Memorial is irradiated with green lights to mark the eve of World Environment Day.
