Kudankulam unit 1 attains full power

Chennai, June 7 (IBNS): In a significant development, the unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant reached full capacity generation of 1,000MW on Saturday.

"Kudankulam unit 1 the largest nuclear power reactor in the country attained its full power of 1000MW at 1320 hrs today. The unit is operating smoothly and all the operating parameters are normal, as per specification," the Nuclear Power Corporation of India India Limited said in a statement on Saturday.

"Kudannkulam 1&2 (2x1000 MW), set up in technical cooperation with Russian Federation have a combination of multi-layered safety features," it said.

At 1000 MW, the Kudankulam unit 1 is the single largest power generating unit in India.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India India Limited said the unit has generated 1900 million units of power so far since it was connected to the grid.
