Cyclone Roanu hits Bangladesh, rains stop in Kolkata

Kolkata/Dhaka, May 21 (IBNS): Touching the coastal areas of West Bengal, cyclonic storm Roanu, which was created on the Bay of Bengal, entered the terrain of Bangladesh through Cox's Bazar coast on Saturday afternoon.

The cyclone hit several districts of Bangladesh with a wind speed of 62 kms per hour and caused huge damage to property in Barisal and Chittagong districts, reports said.

At least 21 people lost their lives while scores others have been injured in the nation.

After making the landfall, the cyclone has turned into a depression, causing heavy rainfall in parts of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, minimum to heavy rainfall is being reported from the coastal districts of West Bengal, including East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas.

Heavy rains lashed Kolkata on Thursday and Friday.

It stopped on Saturday.

The Kolkata regional centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the sky of the city will be full of clouds till Sunday and after Monday the weather will become sunny again.
