7.1 earthquake hits Japan, 7 killed

Tokyo, Apr 16 (IBNS): A massive earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter Scale hit southwestern Japan on Saturday morning, killing at least seven people, media reports said.

 The Japan Meteorological Agency website said the earthquake was felt at 1.25 JST.

The epicentre of the quake was located latitude 32.8 degrees north and longitude 130.8 degrees east.

The quake hit the Kumamoto-ken Kumamoto-chiho region at a depth of 10 kms.

The quake occurred barely a day after a powerful quake rocked the in Kumamoto Prefecture in the nation and killed at least nine people and leaving scores others injured.

The quake on Saturday had triggered a tsunami advisory. But it was later lifted.

No irregularities have been reported in the nuclear plants in the area, media reports said.
