Srinagar, Feb 27 (UNI/IBNS) : Two pilots and a civilian were killed when an Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jet crashed in central Kashmir's Budgam district.

A senior police official said they have recovered three bodies from the crash site.

Official sources said an IAF jet, which took off from Technical Airport in Budgam, crashed on Wednesday at around 1040 hrs. “The debris of the jet was found in Garend Kalan, about 7 km from the airport in an open field,” they said.

They said a pilot and a co-pilot died after they failed to eject safely before the fighter jet crashed.
“One civilian -- identified as Kifayat Hussain -- who was present in the area at the time of the crash, was also killed,” they added.
“The cause of the crash was not immediately known,” they said, adding the area has been sealed.
Locals said that they heard two loud explosions before the aircraft caught fire and crashed into the ground.
