New Delhi, Feb 17 (UNI/IBNS): Owner of the hotel that caught fire on Feb 12 claiming 17 lives, was arrested by Delhi Police crime branch, police said on Sunday.

Rakesh Goel, owner of Hotel Arpit Palace, as per intelligence received by the police, was travelling from Qatar to New Delhi, a crime branch officer said.

A Look-Out Circular had already been issued for him and the Immigration department at the airport was alerted regarding Goel's arrival.

As soon as he reached Delhi, Goel was detained by the officials and later handed over to the crime branch.

Goel was then questioned in detail by the cops. He will be produced before the court as police will seek his remand, in view of the probe.

Earlier, the general manager of Arpit Palace Hotel and another person were arrested for safety violations.

An FIR in the case was registered under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

The fire, which ravaged the top two floors of the six-storey building, was suspected to have caught from a short circuit.
