Assam youth dies after falling into Brahmaputra river while taking selfie

Guwahati, May 14 (IBNS): A shocking news has come to light as a youth died after falling into Brahmaputra river in Guwahati city while he taking selfie. 

The incident took place at Panikhaiti area in outskirts of Guwahati on Sunday evening.

According to the reports, the youth identified as Manoj Thakuria, resident of Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) colony, Narengi area had gone for an outing along with his friends near the Brahmaputra river. 

While the team was busy boating on the Brahmaputra river, Manoj Thakuria fell off from the boat into the river while taking selfie.

Following the incident, Manoj's friends tried to search and rescue him, but they failed.

Later a joint team of police and NDRF recovered the body.

Purabi Mazumdar, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Guwahati City Police said that, the incident happened on Sunday evening while Manoj Thakuria and his 8 friends had gone to the river side.

"Manoj slipped off from a boat and fell into the river while he was taking selfie. Later police and NDRF team recovered the body," Purabi Mazumdar said.
