Under 17 Indian football team defeats Italy ahead of World Cup

New Delhi, May 20 (IBNS): In a friendly match before the U-17 World Cup that would take place in October, Indian team defeated the Italian counterpart by 2-0 in Arizo, Italy, according to the media report on Friday.

Abhijit Sarkar and Rahul Praveen were the two footballers who scored goals for India at 31 minutes and 80 minutes respectively.

Right from early minutes, Indian footballers dominated the Italian football team with strikes at regular intervals and did hit the net at 31' for the first time in the match.

The match was an exposure to the team of Italy as the U-17 World Cup this year will be hosted by India.

Former Indian captain Sunil Chhetri lauded the U-17 football team for the success over Italy.

"Big result last night for our @IndianFootball U17s against Italy. Keep working hard an miracles will happen boys!" Chhetri said on Twitter.

The appreciations came from not only the football arena but cricket exponents also expressed their joy over the victory of India.

Former Indian opening batsman, Virender Sehwag was one of them who tweeted and said: "Yaay! We have beaten Italy. Congratulatons to the under 17@IndianFootball on the spectacular victory. Italy ki idli ban gayi!"

The Under-17 Football World Cup will commence on October 6, 2017.
