Malinga appointed as SL T20 skipper

Colombo, Apr 23 (IBNS) Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, under whose leadership the country lifted the World T20 title recently in Bangladesh, has been appointed as the T20 skipper of the Asian nation.

Malinga replaces Dinesh Chandimal.

Under his leadership Sri Lanka wont the World T20 title by beating India in the final.

After Chandimal had opted out of the semis-final and finals of the tournament, Malinga had captained the side in the World T20.

Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the pacer's vice-captain.

In the ODI format,  Angelo Mathews has been named as the skipper till Mar 2015.

"At a Selection Committee meeting held , the National Selectors selected the following players as the Captain and the Vice Captain of the National ODI and T20 teams Angelo Mathews has been appointed as the Captain of the National ODI Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

"Lasith Malinga has been appointed as the Captain of the National T20 Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015. Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne have also been appointed as the Captain and Vice Captain of the National Test Team until March 2015. This has been approved by the Hon. Minister of Sports," it said.
