Lisa Haydon sets beach on fire with Mauritius' national dance form
Mumbai, Oct 30 (IBNS) It has recently been revealed that the dancers seen alongside Lisa Haydon in Yo Yo Honey Singh’s latest track Manali Trance from 'The Shaukeens' are specialized Sega dancers from Mauritius. Sega is the national dance form of Mauritius, and this is Bollywood’s first music video to feature it.
Choreographer Adil Sheikh reportedly went the extra mile to learn the dance form with the help of local dancers who specialize in it.
Impressed by the effect the dancers created on film, he decided to include the dancers in the video too. Their dedication to the art form was evident in the fact that they agreed to perform for long hours over three consecutive nights out in the cold.
Reportedly, the video also includes some Indian dancers who featured alongside the trained Sega dancers.
Speaking about his choreography for the video, Adil Sheikh said, “I wanted to incorporate the essence of Mauritius in this routine and for me there was nothing better than bringing in the national dance form. It was incredible how quickly Lisa (Haydon) learnt and performed the entire routine. It was very cold, but this woman was sweating because that’s the energy she put into dancing!”
Even the Sega dancers applauded her efforts and termed her performance as incredibly sensuous.
Sega is both the national dance and musical form of Mauritius. Introduced by African slaves during the French colonial period, the Sega is an exotic and often erotic dance. It involves women in colorful skirts twirling and undulating, using graceful hand and arm motions while their feet shuffle along the ground. The dance is backed by a group of drummers and other instrumentalists, a feature beautifully replicated in the music video of Manali Trance.
'The Shaukeens' is a remake of 1982 comedy movie ‘Shaukeen’ directed by Basu Chatterjee. It stars Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Lisa Haydon along with Akshay Kumar in his most special appearance. Produced by Cine1 Studios, Cape Of Good Films & Ashwin Varde Productions and directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film is set to release on November 7, 2014.
