Mumbai, Oct 1 (IBNS) After India's Mary Kom on Wednesday won a Gold in boxing in the Asian Games here, actress Priyanka Chopra, who essayed the role of Mary in reel life, said she had not felt so proud as she felt hearing the news.

"Mary Kom wanted to promote the film but could not come because of her training and the result is showing," said Priyanka Chopra speaking to a TV channel.

She said she had been since the news broke trying to reach Mary Kom over phone.

She immediately tweeted: "Yaaaaaay!!!Now that's called Woman Power! #MaryKom gets gold..makes India Proud & shows us that we can achieve anything! #Momof3 #champion."

"So proud of u @mangtec u r a true champ!! My Shero! Be #Unbeatable Be #Unbreakable Be #MaryKom," posted the Bollywood actress.

Mary Kom beat Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova to lift the gold in the flyweight final. This is the golden Indian girl and Olympian's best finish at the Asian Games.

Mary Kom, on whom now a film of the same title has been made with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra playing her life and struggles in reel life, is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.

"Magnificent Mary", as she is called in India, is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal. 

Mary Kom the film in which Priyanka Chopra acted is a biographical sports drama  directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
