New Delhi, Mar 2(IBNS) Refuting the allegations of the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the BJP-led NDA government is working for the poorest and not for corporates or the rich.
Replying in the Rajya Sabha to the motion of thanks to President's speech in parliament, Modi also said the BJP is no longer a party of the Hindi heartland as it is represented from all corners of the country.

"When we build toilets in schools, is this for corporates? Is Clean Ganga campaign for the corporates or the people living on the banks of the river?," he asked.

Modi pointed out that the soil health card programme or the Jhan Dhan Yojna introduced by his government are are also designed to serve the poor as is the clean India campaign.

"Isn't Clean India campaign for the poor? Can we not provide basic cleanliness facilities to people? Is it for the corporates?," he said.

The maiden budget of the Modi government drew sharp criticism from the opposition, including the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Trinamool Congress and the Left, all describing it as "pro-corporate and anti-poor."

The Prime Minister said his government was based on the support of the people from all over the country and it was committed to serving their causes.

"Go from Kutch to Arunachal Pradesh, you'll see it is represented by BJP in this house. There was a time when people thought this was a party from the Hindi belt," he said.

"There was a time when people said this was a party of the upper castes, after seeing me, those people may have had to change their views," he added.

Criticising the previous UPA government for its performance in the 100 days' work programme, the Prime Minister said during that time only 6.5 per cent people got work.

"Development can happen through 'Neeti' and 'Reeti'...When you stay connected to the ground, you realise what is happening on the ground."

Modi said during the Congress regime Railways and Highways did not approve projects of the other despite both being under the government. "We have changed that," he said.

The Prime Minister said the NDA government has so far adopted 650 villages under the Adarsh Gram Yojna and cleared 350 projects.
