Nevada, June 11 (IBNS): A US based Hindu group has congratulated Reverend Ronnie Floyd on his election as the President of Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) on Jun 10 in Baltimore (USA) and hoped that he would promote interfaith dialogue in the USA and the world.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement here on Wednesday, hoped that SBC under Reverend Floyd would work for promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperating in common causes such as peace, ecological responsibility, social development, human rights, etc., with different religions and denominations.

"Dialogue brought us mutual enrichment and helped us overcome prejudices passed down to us from previous generations," Zed said.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, noted, "Religion is a complex component of human life. Dialogue helps us to see interconnections and interdependencies between religions."

SBC, organized in 1845 in Augusta (Georgia, USA) and now headquartered in Nashville (Tennessee, USA)  and whose tagline is 'Reaching the world for Christ', states to have over 16-million members and over 50,000 churches.

Ernest L. Easley is Chairman of its Executive Committee.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

There are about three million Hindus in USA.
