Emami Chisel Art brings to Kolkata 'Crossing 60', by distinguished artist Arpana Caur

Kolkata, Jan 5 (IBNS) Emami Chisel Art sets off 'Crossing 60', the very first solo paperwork of eminent Indian artist Arpana Caur in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by National Award winning actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in the presence of other eminent personalities like Tanusree Shankar, Mamata Shankar and Pallavi Chatterjee.

An award-winning contemporary Indian artist of international repute, Arpana Caur’s solo exhibitions have been showcased in London, Glasgow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Singapore, Munich, New York, Stockholm and Copenhagen National Museum apart from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai.

More popularly known worldwide for her large format oil paintings, Arpana’s work can be seen in Museums of Modern Art in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Dusseldorf, Singapore, Bradford, Stockholm, Hiroshima, MOCA LA, Peabody Boston, Asian Art Museum San Francisco and Victoria and Albert Museum London.

Speaking at the launch of her exhibition, Arpana Caur said, “This is my first paper works solo in Kolkata. My last solo here was about 12 years ago on large oils. Basically my work is known for large format oil paintings. I’m thrilled to exhibit over 100 small paper works collection of 35 years. I was impressed by the space and the art collection spread of Emami Chisel Art and was eagerly waiting to be associated with them.”

Arpana has been awarded a gold medal in VIth International Triennele 1986 in Delhi. She was commissioned by Hiroshima Museum of Modern Art to execute a large work for its permanent collection for the 50th anniversary of the Holocaust in 1995, and by Bangalore and the city of Hamburg to do large non-commercial murals in public spaces.

Since 1981 she did three large non-commercial murals in Delhi. Today her paintings also support several projects for the underprivileged.
