Ajmer: Six infants die in hospital, govt orders probe

India Blooms News Service | | 16 May 2016, 11:18 am
Ajmer, May 16 (IBNS) In a curious case in Rajasthan's Ajmer district, six infants have died within 24 hours, all belonging to the same ward of a government hospital, sending a massive alert across the facility while attracting a probe from the government, according to reports.

The infants in the pediatric ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital died of septicaemia, TOI reported.

While fingers were raised at the hospital authorities regarding the lack of cooperation, BS Karnawat, head of the pediatric department, who denied the charges, was quoted by the daily as saying, "All of them were brought in a critical condition. We tried our best."

Karnawat received support from state Women and Child development Minister Anita Bhadel, who said, "The infants were underweight, and had been brought in critical condition."
