Chennai, Nov 21 (IBNS): The Madras High Court on Monday asked the Finance Ministry to ban the newly released INR 2000 notes, based on a PIL filed in the court, reports said.

KPT Ganesan, a resident of Madurai filed the public interest litigation asking the government to remove the notes as it contained the numerals in the Devanagari script.

The petition reportedly said that according to the Indian Constitution, Devanagari cannot be used, as only the international form of the Indian numerals is allowed, according to Article 343.

The court has asked the central government to reply to the queries.
