Kerala in prequarters of Santosh

Kolkata, July 26 (IBNS) : Strong contenders Kerala stormed into the prequarter finals of the Santosh Trophy outplaying resurgent Assam 5-2 in the last qualifying play in Cluster VII. They will now meet Mizoram, which beat Railways 1-0, here Monday.
Mizoram advanced in the prequarters on goal difference over Railways as both ended Cluster VIII qualifying plays with six points each.
It was Mizoram's mideo Lalrinfela who scored the all impoartant goal in the 33rd minute.
For Kerala and Assam it was a do or die game as both came with six points each from previous two games, but the latter had a better goal difference and needed only a draw.
But the five times winners southern state had better acumen despite concedeing first goal and ralled superbly to tame the northeast rivals in the ninety minutes' game.
Akum Ao levelled the score in the 22nd mintue after Javed from Assam slotted home inside nineteen minutes.
Kerala then held the game with goals from Justine Stephen, MP Sakeer, Bijesh Ben and K P Jubir. Jelendra Bramha scored another goal for Assam.
In Cluster VII Uttarakhand defeated Himachal Pradesh 4-0 to complete formality and Orissa beat Bihar 3-0 in Cluster VIII to complete the journey for 64the edition of the national
soccer championship.
