New Delhi, March 17 (IBNS) Riding on skipper Sachin Tendulkar's fine 63, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 98 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Wednesday.
Daredevils made 120 for nine in 16.3 overs with skipper Gautam Gambhir not able to come out with bat after he suffered a hamstring injury early on in the day. Asked to bat first Tendulkar and Saurabh Tiwari (61) powered Mumbai Indians to 218 for seven in 20 overs.
Tendulkar, who was adjudged as the Man of the Match, took Mumbai Indians to a flier with his 32-ball innings and Tiwary’s swashbuckling innings of 34 balls assured the Mumbai team a challenging total.
Daredevils also got a great start from Virender Sehwag (26) and Tillekaratne Dilshan (17) with the openers adding 38 runs for the first wicket. But they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Tendulkar started the proceedings by hitting fast bowler Dirk Nannes for a four through the covers.
Leg spinner Amit Mishra dropped Tendulkar on 36, but atoned for it by dismissing him in the 11th over with Nagar taking a neat low catch at long off. Tiwari and Ambati Rayudu (34) then entertained the Kotla crowd with their 71-run stand.
