B’desh tour very satisfactory: Aiyer

Kolkata, July 15 (IBNS) Indian MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, who led a 33-member business delegation to Bangladesh from July 10-14, said the outcome of his visit to the neighbouring country has been ‘very satisfactory’.
Addressing a press conference at the end of the tour, here on Thursday, Aiyar said: : “The idea of taking the delegation to Bangladesh was to invite all Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in any of the eight North Eastern states and not only in West Bengal.”
The visit was jointly organized by Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce (MCC) in Kolkata and the Indo-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and associated chambers in Bangladesh.
Aiyar underlined that the Government of India’s intention is to put North Eastern region in the arrowhead of development.
The delegation met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sk. Hasina and the Shipping Minister and the Commerce Minister of Bangladesh.
A press note issued by the Bangladesh side at the end of the visit quoted the Prime Minister Hasina as saying “All roads, rail and river connections with India is being revived in order that Bangladesh reap the benefits of being a natural transit country,” Aiyar pointed out.
It was agreed that the next plenary of business persons from India and Bangladesh would be held in Agartala within the next six months.
