Islamabad, Feb 9 (IBNS): The Taliban based in Orakzai Agency on Tuesday confirmed that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakeemullah Mehsud is dead, Dawn News reported.
But a TTP spokesperson rubbished the report and said Mehsud is alive.
According to the report, government officials have also confirmed his death. They said he was killed in a Shaktoi drone strike last month. American and Pakistani officials had been saying Mehsud was dead since the past few weeks.
Maulvi Noor Jamal has been nominated as Mehsud's succesor, the report added.
However, TTP spokesperson Alam Tariq reportedly said Mehsud is 'alive and well'. |
